Powder or Cream Blush: That is the Question

Powder or Cream Blush: That is the question.

Power or Cream. Picking the right formula for your skin  let alone the right color can be intimidating. While both are great options, I recommend finding which feels most natural to you and is the easiest to apply. Below I share the colors I’m wearing regularly, great colors for every skin tone and when I choose cream over powder!

I like a good power blush and typically wear a shade of NARS. From Gaiety and Deep Throat to Sex Appeal and the cult favorite Orgasm, the blush delivers beautiful pigmentation, blends easily and comes in amazing colors that provide different looks on my fair skin.

The price tag is a tad high. At $30, some may be turned off but if you’re looking for just one go-to shade to keep in your makeup bag, Orgasm is a great buy. This color flatters almost every skin tone and provides a beautiful peach-pinkish color with just a touch of golden shimmer. Another flattering product I love is Hervana by benefit. Retails for $28. The palette features four shades which blend perfectly to go with several eye looks and multiple skin tones. I’ve found that I can use this one with cool and warm eye palettes! Both products are available at Sephora. Want a great drugstore find? Try Sonia Kashuk Beautifying Blush in Pink Rose. Under $10.

While powder blushes are regularly found in my makeup kit, I opt for cream blush when it rains or on warmer summer days. Multiple brands make cream options but I love the Chanel Healthy Glow Sheer Sticks in No 21 (pinkish) and 22 (more coral/apricot).

These sticks are SO easy to throw in a handbag for touch ups and can be applied with my fingers. The color blends easily, doesn’t cake or streak in sweltering heat and provides a nice flush of color and radiance to my skin. It even holds up well when I hit the water. Side Note: these are more hydrating and won’t tend to soak up oils like powers do. If you have super oily skin, a power option is probably better for you.

For quick application and more intense color, I just dab my cheeks directly with the cream stick and blend with my fingers. For subtle color or when I can apply in front of a vanity, I swipe my foundation brush across the top of the stick and then blend to my cheeks until I reach the desired color. Side note: On humid or rainy days, I also spritz on a bit of de-slick Urban Decay Makeup Setting Spray. The spray controls my natural oils and really sets the makeup.

I’ve also tried the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in a light pink shade. A great drugstore option if you’re wanting to give cream blush a try but don’t want to pay a higher price!

Every year, the department store  Younkers has a Goodwill sale.  I don’t frequent the store but many have a Chanel makeup counter. Yes, please!

Earlier this week, I got a call from Amanda Blunck. She works at the Valley West Mall (Des  Moines, Iowa) Younkers Chanel counter and is taking pre-orders through Sept. 15, 2015 for their annual Goodwill sale. What does this mean?!

This is 20 percent off your total purchase of cosmetics/fragrance/skincare and can be used at other makeup counters throughout Younkers, too. Amazing!

Sales on cosmetics – let alone Chanel products – are hard to come by. Now is the perfect time to splurge on makeup brushes, that face serum with a hefty price tag,  your favorite perfume or a fall eye palette you’ve been eyeing. You can simply look online at Chanel.com for the items you might want and call Amanda at 515-223-2457 to place your order! Don’t live in Des Moines? No problem. I don’t either. She offered to ship them to me!

Below are Chanel items that I use consistently. Let me know if you have questions on any of the below items and stay tuned to the blog for reviews on many of these staples!

Side note: I scored the Jimmy Choo loafers waaaaay on sale at Nordstrom Rack in Chicago. What an amazing place. ; )

FYI – The Younkers Goodwill sale discounts can be applied throughout the store. I believe it is a larger percentage on clothing/shoes, 20 percent on beauty and 15 percent on electronics and home.  Not exactly sure when the official sale kicks off.  Visit Younkers.com for more info. And one more tip! Younkers often sends out $50 off $100 purchase coupons. I get the coupons emailed to me and use them for kids sleepwear/playwear. If you have small kids, you know how quickly the trash them or grow out of them. These coupons are amazing for getting more for yo’ money!

New Bumble and bumble Products Provide Great Texture for Air-Dry Styles

Great Texture for Air-Dry Styles

Wash. Dry. Style with Heat. Repeat.

Scratch that. Give the hair tools and your strands a rest. The Don’t Blow It (H)Air Styler from Bumble and bumble is a new air-dry must have.

Working from home and chasing two small kiddos on the weekends, I sometimes don’t have time — or the energy — to spend on my locks. And while tousled waves and air-dried looks are having a major moment, my normal air-dry look — when no product has been used — leaves me looking like a hot mess.

Enter Bumble and bumble. This new product gives my natural waves a little more texture than the wash and go look… but it really is that simple. I wash, towel dry, run some product through my hair and scrunch or twist a few chunks of hair before calling it good.

Another product I’ve really enjoyed in over the last several months is the newer Bumble and bumble Surf Infusion which incorporates oil with the salt-infused spray for waves that also give me a little more sheen, but less crunch than their traditional Surf spray. With this one, I let my hair air dry a tad longer before applying it throughout and wear it loose with a side part.

If like me, you’re a busy woman on the go, consider trying one of these products. You’ll knock some prep time off your morning routine and reduce the amount of heat applied to your hair!
