Get Out of that Wardrobe Rut

AB0A4459A89V5436Ruflfle Dress Multiple Ways

Ever get stuck in a wardrobe rut and feel like you’re wearing the same exact pieces the very same ways? I have been guilty of this but wanted to challenge myself – and my readers – to find a piece of clothing and make it work at least three different ways in the coming month.

This ruffle dress (which I’ve featured before) is very versatile. In this post, I’ve tried to showcase a few different styles and offered additional thoughts on how you can pull different pieces together from your wardrobe to create some super fun looks. Here I played off some of the same accessories  – my shoes and bag – but you don’t have to.

Look at the list below for some outfit inspiration and then try it out at home. Please share your pics and ideas on the Facebook page. I look forward to seeing what you put together.

  • A Day at the Office: Pair with feminine heels, oversized shades, a boyfriend blazer and ladylike crossbody.
  • Quirky and Fun: Mix prints and go unexpected with a camo jacket and pumps. Suede booties would look great, too! Style points for pairing blush and shades of green together.
  • Make it a Skirt: By pairing with feminine heels and topping with a black cashmere sweater, you create another look that is fantastic for the office. Consider a leather oversized clutch vs the crossbody.
  • Warm Weather Day:  Wear the dress alone and throw on strappy nude sandals. I love the idea of pairing it with an oversized tote for an afternoon of shopping or running errands with the kids.  Cooler nights? Layer a fitted denim jacket on top and reach for a casual tote (style not shown).
  • Make it a Tunic: Layer a trench dress (like the green one I’ve featured in a previous post) over the pink. Put on skinny jeans, booties and fun accessories like an arm full of leather wrap bracelets or gold bangles (style not shown).

Elevated Grunge

Elevated Grunge Elevated Grunge Elevated Grunge

This outfit is a little grunge, very comfy and elevated just a tad with heels, satchel and black-framed aviator sunglasses.

Want to go all in? Tie a flannel around your waist while still wearing the jacket. Pair with shredded or black denim and combat boots.

I wore this with black leather sandals to lunch/farmer’s market with friends and then put on heels for drinks with the hubby later that afternoon.

Fall = Sweater Weather. You can never have too many. My husband, however, is never as excited about them as I am and would tell you he doesn’t agree. ; )

This orange crew pullover from Banana Republic can be perfectly paired so many ways.

Amp up a simple go-to sweater and distressed denim skirt with a color-blocked ladylike bag and black pumps.

Stay tuned for more looks wearing this top. I seriously wear it with everything!

It is a great fall staple at a great price. I purchased during a 40 percent off sale.

The Slouchy Tuxedo Pant

These slouchy tuxedo pants have quickly become a favorite of mine for vacations, date nights and dinners in Vegas. I love a beautiful dress but sometimes I’m just not in the mood. It is nice to look totally put together but feel like you’re in sweats.

I typically style these with a simple top like the one seen here and black Stuart Weitzman nudist sandals. With the weather getting colder, I instead topped with a leather jacket and put on pumps. These pants would also look great styled in an off-duty way with a comfy sweater and leather or suede sneakers or loafers.

Shirt: C/MEO Collective (No longer available). Purchased at Aimee boutique. Same top in black here.

Try a Sleeveless Waistcoat this Fall

Perfect for layering and adding a little extra warmth on chilly days, this sleeveless waistcoat from Zara is a new favorite.

The camel is a great neutral color and the vest can be easily paired with so many pieces.

For casual off-duty looks, I wear mine over a simple cami and pair with boyfriend jeans and loafers or sneakers (see above). As it gets colder, I’ll wear over a sweater in a bold color or opt for a long-sleeved striped tee.

Going to work? An all black ensemble underneath would be so chic. Think a black blouse or turtleneck, black culottes and pumps or booties. I also pair this waistcoat with burgundy patio pants, a paisley sleeveless blouse and neutral caged heels (this look will be up on blog soon).

For brunch with girlfriends? Consider a pastel or cream long-sleeved blouse, flouncy skirt and suede boots!

Burgundy and Blush

Blush & Burgundy Blush & Burguundy

Burgundy and Blush. You’re seeing these two colors everywhere this fall… but have you thought about pairing them together?

This fluted print skirt is gorgeous. Simple to throw on and beautiful paired with a blush blouse, this little get up would be great to put into your work wardrobe rotation this fall.

Dress up the skirt with a blouse and pumps or try a black or blush crewneck sweater and ballet flats.

Off-duty? Wear with a black sleeveless sweater hoodie and sneakers.

Consider dressing down the blouse with denim flares and block heels or burgundy skinnies and brown booties. Reach for some gold-rimmed aviators and you’re set!
